At the age of 6, Janyce Sukow knew what she’d be when she grew up – an artist, musician, wife and mother.  Today and since then she is grateful beyond words for these precious gifts from her Creator.  She has been an active member of Northwest Pastel Society, Oil Painters of America, Arizona Cowboy Artists, Music Teachers National Association, Aglow International, South Hill Artists and various art leagues in the early years.  Musically she’s been a keyboard player and vocalist for northwest area bands such as One Accord and Jazz Disciples.  She is also an award winning composer and arranger having worked on different recording projects and taught piano privately since 1980. The mother of 3 very gifted children and 2 grandsons, she’s been married for over
40 years to Dan, a retired engineer and now award-winning photographer.

"Many years ago while attending an international portrait seminar at the Metropolitan Museum in New York, I heard an opening remark by John Howard Sanden 'There is beauty in every face.'  That comment struck a chord with me as I first began trying to capture family likenesses on paper as a 4 year old.  It was at that same age that I began playing the piano, emulating songs I’d heard.  Like the Olympic champion, Eric Liddell who stated 'When I run I feel His pleasure!'  That’s how it is for me when I am painting or playing music."-Janyce Sukow

Janyce received her formal art training under Jim Garrison at Mesa Community college (AZ), Scottsdale Center for the Arts, and Portland School of Art (Portland, ME).  While these were valuable learning experiences, she feels that her greatest training came from ten years as a highly commissioned portrait artist while living in Arizona.  During those years her work was also shown in various Tempe and Scottsdale galleries.   She was invited to do live, on-camera painting illustrations for a Phoenix based TV Show and her work has since been published in Tasty Rhythms by Jeff Brandt and Best of America Oil Artists and Artisans.  She has been inspired and attended workshops by David Gray and Meadow Gist as well as admiring the works of Steve Hanks, Jeff Legg, Thomas Moran and Douglas Flynt.
